I have a very small mouth, especially the roof of my mouth. I recently went to the orthodontist to get a free consultation and to my horror the doctor said I have to get jaw surgery plus 3 years in braces. I am not sure what kind of surgery I have to get but I was reading Brandy's blog about her SARPE. I think they may have to do that procedure to make more room up on top. After reading about it it doesn't sound so bad. I have a very good tolerance for pain so I'm hoping the pain won't be bad. I was looking at my teeth in the mirror and there's a possibility they might have to move my lower jaw forward. I have to pay 300 dollars for them to tell me all the actual details. I don't see the point in going to get the records until I have insurance which will be in 2 years which is a year after I graduate college and get a full time job. So I decided I'm not going to worry about it until then. I have bad popping in my jaws too and experience a lot of fatigue and breathing problems because of how small my mouth is. I was wondering if that can be early signs of sleep apnea. Of course I need a doctor to diagnose me for that but I am just wondering. I also experience snoring. There's a possibility that I could start grinding my teeth later on in life because my mom does it but hopefully not.
Anyways I just wanted to say that it has helped me big time to see that I am not the only one who has to go through with all this. It helps to see that people are going through with it and experiencing great results. Thanks for putting all of my horrible fears to rest and believe me some of them were pretty graphic. haha.

cas4god,
All the stuff you listed could be a sign of sleep apnea. You could go see an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) doctor and see what they think. They would most likely suggest that you go have a sleep study done to verify if in fact you do have it. They are pretty spendy so you would probably again need to have insurance for this.

I will probably do that. It's only 1 year up to 2 years until I can get a fulltime job with insurance so it's not that long. Thanks for the information. I can't wait to get all this stuff started. But I'll enjoy painlessness for now while I can because I know it's going to be hard when I do get all of this stuff done. Let's just hope I can afford it all. But I'll have hope. I won't freak out like I did after I heard I have to have jaw surgery.

I am back again after 3 years. I decided not to worry about the jaw surgery. I decided life is too short to worry about how my teeth are. If I can't afford surgery then there's not I can do about that.
I went to an allergist about my breathing problems and it turns out it's due to allergies, not sleep apnea. Now I can breathe better with the help of an inhaler and zyrtec d.
I went to a different orthodontist and got a consultation a couple of days ago and the ortho said that we could try to avoid jaw surgery. I don't want to get surgery if it isn't absolutely necessary.
I am going for the records in a couple of weeks. And maybe I'll start my braces journey in August.
I will update after I have my records appointment.
