Procrastination Nation: Whiner Alert!

#1 Post by spayurpets »

Hi guys! I am having a hard time just biting the bullet and calling my ortho to say "let's get started" on my braces. I'm okay with the SARPE stuff that is down the pike (well, okay maybe not the gap deal) but I am just COLOSSALLY bummed about getting my braces put on. I guess the sooner I get them on the sooner I get them off but WAH WAH WAH WAAAAH. I don't wannnnewwwwwww. :( I guess the other thing I am dreading is that my Class III bite on my right side is not apparent from the front so to all it looks like I have perfect teeth and perfect bite. I am just dreading all the questions....WHY WHY WHY did you get braces? I'm so miserable...I need to get some perspective I suppose.

Hey, spayurpets (love that siggie, btw),

What you're feeling right now is quite normal. A week before I got my braces, I was looking for every reason in the book to postpone. And yeah, if I looked at my teeth from a certain angle, they didn't look too bad to me either (I was a mild Class III). My orthodontist thought they were bad enough to warrant surgery (but that's another story).

The fact is, the sooner you get started, the sooner you finish. 14 months in, I'm a pig in mud.

Don't worry about it seriously. Everyone goes through a phase where they think "Braces? I don't want those put on!" But after a few weeks you will wonder what all the fuss was about.

To be honest after a month or so everything will just be 'normal' so to speak. I actually enjoy wearing them, they are no hassle whatsoever, and I know they are doing a great job.

I always think its so funny how people view this whole braces thing. I personally couldn't wait to get mine on, and if anybody should've been dreading it, it was me at 43 years old!

Trust me...no one is going to really care. Not to sound mean, but most people are way to concerned about what is going on with themselves
to even care what is going on in your mouth. The reality is that people really are not very observant. I kid you not....I literally had people over a month after I got them say "Oh...hey, I didn't know you got braces" I would just smile and say yeah...about a month ago. But most people really didn't say much of anything. I work in a school and I still have kids say "I didn't know you have braces" and they have seen me every week for almost 9 months now! Up close and personal!

I'm so glad I got them on, and I think you wil be amazed at how fast your teeth get moving. I've only had mine on a little over a year but the changes have been phenomenal! Just do it! you won't regret it.
