Just a few questions...

#1 Post by happyendings »

In a couple months I will be ready to undergo surgery, specifically a Le Forte I osteotomy, to correct both a horizontal and vertical maxillary deficiency. This should effectively move my upper jaw forward and down. You can't see my teeth with a normal smile. I also have a minimal under bite due to the horizontal deficiency. I know many people have had their maxilla's moved forward. Has anyone had their upper jaw moved down? How do they fill the void created by separating the jaw bone? Bone grafts?
Additionally, I was curious how long people wait post-op until their orthodontists start making adjustments again?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on your physical makeup and how far the surgeons have to move the jaw. They told me if there was a gap then they would bone-graft, and I just had to sign a paper agreeing to the terms. But It wasn't done afterall.

I believe I will be seeing my ortho once I have the slack bands off, which will be somewhere around 8+ weeks post op.
