OS Consultation costs?

#1 Post by PoliGirl »

My orthodontist has suggested jaw surgery to correct my overbite. When I called the OS they said the consultation would take all day and cost $2,000. Granted this includes a CT scan but I was expecting more like $250 for a specialist consulation. Is this normal? I don't think my insurance will cover that and now I'm thinking of scrapping the whole thing.

PoliGirl,

You don't say where you are or if you have insurance, but there's no way I would pay that, especially not knowing if I was even going to agree to the surgery! That's a crazy amount!

Mine was a 30 minute consultation with the regular co-pay. An Oral-Maxillofacial surgeon should be able to talk to you and look at your jaw and see if you'd be a good candidate before he takes all the x-rays, etc. I've had 3 different surgery consults and no one made me pay upfront! I think I'd get an appointment with a different surgeon.

Good luck!

Lo
