12 weeks post-op: ear pain and clicking

#1 Post by singer19 »

Uh oh. Everything was going so well--then a couple of weeks ago I was eating my morning cereal and *click* went the right side of my jaw. That continued to happen sporadically, then a few days ago it was clicking with every movement I made--that only last for an evening and now it's back to doing it only a few times a day. On top of that, there has been a strange pain on my right side, mostly in my ear, but along with a weird ache on the side of my tongue (?!) and inside my mouth.

I had lots of TMJ problems prior to the surgery--which was the major reason for the surgery. But I never had the ear pain. Disheartening to have it on the other side of the surgery.

My ortho said to just stay aware of it and let him know if it doesn't go away. The last time I saw my surgeon was July 5 and he said he was done with me, but maybe I need to contact him?

Anyone else experience something like this???

Hi Singer,

I had some R ear pain post-op, too. I thought I had an earache and couldn't hear very well in that ear - like I was under water. It did go away (4 weeks out). But, I do think you should talk to your surgeon about it.

My OS said I was his patient for life, so any time there is a question, to call. I would think your surgeon would feel the same way.

Singer - I had lots of ear pain after my jaw surgery. In fact it's been 11 months since my surgery and I still have some pain in my ear. I was told it was actually transfered jaw pain, since the joint is right close to the ear, and comes from the muscles getting used to their new position. I found that taking motrin and icing my ear has really helped.

Definately talk to your OS though, since everyone is different.
