Back Home from Surgery!

#1 Post by orangecountymetal »

Well - I am officialy post surgical. Had my lower jaw advancement / upper something or other (didn't find out about the upper till 2 days before the surgery so I don't remember the official name of it) on Wed 08/15 at 9:00 am. Spent the night in the hospital and returned home yesterday around 1pm. Everything went really well according to the surgeon. I'm numb on my lower lip and bottom chin only. Unfortunatley they had to put in that damn plastic wafer since my teeth would not set properly without it. I went back to the surgeons office directly after being discharged and they took some xrays to make sure that my condials were still in place for my TMJ - (which is the reason for my arthroscopic surgery 4 months ago) Everything looked great!

I'm trying to stay positive and there really is no pain - just discomfort, but the worst of it all is when the mucus builds up in my throat and I can't clear it and then I can't breath - I had a panick attack last night when this happened. i just kept drinking water from the zip and and squeez until it all finally went back down. Really shook me up though.... Hope that doesn't happen again. My head is also about 2x it's normal size - which is kinda cool :) started to apply moist heat today after 2 days of ice.....

I've been up and walking around since yesterday and I'm taking in about 1,000 calories per day and drinking tons of water!

Thanks for the reply :)

Yea - I hired a nutritionist and he wants me to have at least 1,300 - 1,400 calories per day, but that first day was tough. Should not be a problem today. water really helping too.

I'm glad to hear you're doing good after your surgery. I'll be having the same thing done next Wednesday. Keep us posted on your progress! :D

Hi
Glad to see your doing well. looks like we had surgery on the same day but i think that i am about 8 hours ahead of you as i am in ireland and you, I presume are in california.
I have found that the only thing that freaks me out is the numbness in my bottom lip and chin. my lip feels as if it is really cold but of course its not. I hope it will get better as the weeks pass. How tight are you banded? I was tight for 10 days but now only 2 and that enables me to drink from a cup but the numb bottom lip needs watching or I can dribble a bit. keep up your calorie intake. it will make a huge difference to your recovery .
liquised savory rice and prawns is not bad.
Good luck with your progress
Dave :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
