Fed up with my palate expander

Need some support when my palate expander was surgically inserted on may 8, my surgeon told me I would have it in for 2/3 months until everything was all healed. However when I saw my ortho last week he said it will be October. It's driving me nuts, it is smelly and sometimes it bleeds and it is extra sensitive during my time of the month. Any tips?

I totally agree that sometimes the expander sucks. here's my advice.

1. ask your ortho about going to a TPA. it is smaller and easier to take care of. I wore the expander 6 months and have had a TPA for 3. So I've had something on the roof of my mouth for a long time.

2. When the expander bothers you try rinsing with warm saltwater. It will soothe irratated spots.

3. I avoid foods that create sharp ends (potato chips) because they tend to get in those small spaces and make tiny cuts.

Hope it helps,
kim

Sounds like the expander is screwed in your jaw, I thought they are banded or bonded or crownd and glued on teeth. What excactly did the surgeon do with the expander for you? (I probably get one too laater in my treatment so I just got scared now when I read about surgeons...)
