I believe you are refering to SARPE - surgicaly assisted rapid palate expansion. I was quoted close to $8000 USD 1,5 years ago.

I believe it depends on what part of the country you have the proceedure in.

Perhaps trying searching this forum with "Sarpe" and "cost" as the keywords, and that should get you some reports.
Dec 2006--RPE followed by SARPE surgery
Jan 2007--Braces
Nov 2007 BSSO mandibular setback, genioplasty, and two implant anchors. Surgery-eve reprieve from Lefort.
May 2008--Debraced

Surgeries in Costa Rica, Orthodontics in Massachusetts.

All to fix an openbite, crossbite, underbite, and two missing bottom molars.

I had mine done in Alaska which tends to run about 40% higher for medical costs, and it was about $7500.00. I only paid $1,000 though as my insurance covered the rest.

I paid out of pocket as my insurance would not cover the procedure. As of November of last year, I paid $6000 for general anesthesia while doing the porcedure in office. My doc would not do local in any way. However, he knew that insurance would not pay so he gave us a bit of a discount as we were paying out of pocket.

I am in south central PA.
