Hi my name's THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO ADMINISTRATOR THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO ADMINISTRATOR THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO ADMINISTRATOR THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO ADMINISTRATOR THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO ADMINISTRATOR and I just registered here.
First off let me apologizing for not searching, but it's late and I don't have enough time.
I've been in braces since March of 2007. It's been going really well so far and I'm really happy with the way my teeth look now. However, I'm getting two extractions on the 15th. Two upper teeth (one on each side I think) in addition to all of my wisdom teeth. 6 total extractions in one sitting if I remember right. Hopefully I'm remembering the right numbers and they're not moving more.
Their taking out two of the teeth on my top side to correct my overbite. My question is, will these extractions make my face longer, or make my cheeks look "sunken"? That is my main concern, because it seems like a lot of orthodontists/surgeons say that none of these will affect face shape yet I read so many accounts (even on these boards) of people's face shape changing. I'm quite happy with my teeth now but I'm just following what my orthodontist says.
One more thing I need to mention is that I have been wearing elastics on one side since the end of July. However in the past few months I have been very forgetful to wear them all the time. My orthodontist hasn't seem to have expressed any concern about it but I'm not sure if he knows how much I've forgotten them. I feel really bad about it though because it wasn't intentional, but I just wish I had not been so forgetful.
Lastly, who should I call to answer these questions? My orthodontist or the surgeon who will be performing the extractions?
Thanks for putting up with the long post and endless questions. Again, sorry for not searching for similar topics but I felt I might as well go ahead and ask.

I had my wisdom teeth removed last summer, along with 4 other teeth because they were causing crowding. My appearance didn't change. I think it's rare for it to happen.

It really depends on how old you are. Also there is a lot of debate on whether pulling teeth out can change the shape of your face and the growth of the bones in there. There seems to be atleast agreement that it could affect the shape of the soft tissue (atleast around your mouth area). WHether this will be positive or negative will depend on the shape of your face.

I had four teeth pulled out when I was young (unnecessarily as i had a small underbite due to upper jaw being small and not lower jaw being big), and both my surgeon and orthodontist agree (by looking at photos of me then and also looking and my parents's face) that it did change the shape of my face. They think it caused my lips to not be as forward as they should have been, gave my face a pinched in look, caused my nose to droop slightly (cause of lack of support) and my lower jaw to lose some definition + slightly underdeveloped midface.

But it really depends on your age.

Personally I would get 2-3 other opinions from orthoes before i go through with it. There are a lot of different schools of thought on the approach to take and some support extraction more than others. Even at my orthodontists, when I get a different doctor on a certain day, he can tell me something completely opposite what another would tell me about questions like this.

My ortho right now is dr derek mahoney. He is very good I think and lectures all around the world. You might try to find someone who is from the same school of thought in relation to orthodontist method as him and ask their opinion. He is very much against extraction in most cases.
