Time between surgery and debanding?

#1 Post by ThinK »

I'm just wondering how long people had to wait after surgery to get debanded? 6-9 months? A year? More?

My surgery (upper, lower, genio) is on January 30 and I'm just trying to get an estimate to when I might get them removed!

This depends entirely on what type of surgery your are having, what your underlying problems are and how long it takes the ortho to make complete the final correctios post surgery. Even if you get an estimate from your Ortho it really all depends on how fast your teeth respond.

Therefore the answer is.....it is different for everyone.

Personally my ortho says I'll be 3-4 months post op. My OS thinks it will be closer to 6-8. We'll see who is right.

It's almost been 5 months since upper and lower surgery and I'm still braced. OS wants to wait at least 6 months. Seeing ortho next week - hoping for a date to take them off!!!

I had upper jaw surgery December 17th, and I've been told around 3 months after surgery is typical by my orthodontist (but he said it's because my OS is so good that everything's almost perfect after op so 3 months is all it takes).

Will let you know how it actually turns out;)

Im having lower jaw surgery 2 days before you and at my last ortho appointment my ortho said it will be probably 3/4 months post-op for me, so im hoping may/june time. But i'm not putting too much hope into that as i don't want to be dissapointed if its longer.

That's great news Rach, but I too am not going to hope too much and just see how things go. I graduate from college in the fall so it'd be nice to have them off by then :)
