Hey everybody!

exactly today on my birthday, i got to know, that two of my wisdom teeth have to be removed tomorrow! then on friday they put the brace-arch(is that correct? )for the first time on my lower teeth, and a palatinal arch on the upper, then the other two wisdom teeth will be removed on monday(i guess surgically, because they still didnt grow out..), and one week later the Bimax will take place.. they thought about taking them out during surgery, but as the surgery would take 45 minutes more with the removal, they prefer to take them out before.
so i guess i'll have a tough program, and i just hope, that the swelling won't be too bad from the wisdomteeth removal, cause before the surgery, they'll have to take some pictures, and make impressions for the model-OP.

but it doesnt really matter, and im not scared yet, which surprises me!! but maybe the fear is just sitting inside of me, waiting to break out, hahaha..

of course it also makes a difference, that, as maybe some of you read in my other threads, i have a timeframe of 3 month for braces, wisdomteeth removal and bimax, and am really glad that it was possible to perform all that in such a short time. so that gladness kind of takes away my fear... until now..

Wow, that's a lot to get done at once! You sure have a good attitude, too. I also was more excited to get my surgery done that I was scared . I had just waited so long.

I'm sure you'll be fine or else your doctors wouldn't suggest your plan of treatment. Keep us posted and Happy late Birthday!

today was the removal of one wisdom tooth, heres the short story:

i wasnt really petrified when i went to the surgeon today, but of course there was a kind of strange feeling inside of me, not knowing what exactly is going to happen, as some people say its horrible, and some, that its a cakewalk...
but i can tell everyone who still is pre-wisdomteethremoval, that it wasnt so bad at all!! actually, i didnt feel anything when they started, and ive decided to just close my eyes, so i didnt see all the butcher-instruments, lol, although i was reaally really curious to see whats going on.. but i managed to keep my eyes closed, while they even had to dig inside my bone with a borer, as the tooth has grown inside the bone completely, and they had a hard time trying to get it ôut there.. and at the end they put some stitches, and finished it was.
it really sounds worse then it is, i felt a little pressure, but nothing more, so no reason to be horrified!!


the funny part was, when i had my eyes closed, and he had started already with the procedure, i heard a loud knocking beside me, so i asked, "everything alright??"(it was more a "ahihin ahaight?") and he just said, "yeah, just some technical problems", then he kept on beating with an instrument to the table!!
i really dont know why i started laughing, but it kind of was a slapstick, a schematical surgeon/patient situation..

yesterday i felt a bit alone, when thinking about the whole prosedure thats ahead of me, and one step following so fastly after the other. its not that i felt lonely, because fortunately i have some people who support me. even my mom is going to be here with me, some days before, until after the surgery, although she lives in another country, so im very happy about that, especially, because actually we've never had a good relationship until now. and if we still dont, at least i wont be able to fight with her after surgery, hahaha..
so its not that i felt lonely, but rather alone with all the pain and discomfort, and also the fears, cause im the only one who can bare them.. unfortunately..

but its a big release, knowing that its not as bad as i thought, so now i am more relaxed about the main surgery too, i mean, im gonna survive, right??;)

Yes, Stephany, you'll survive! Prior surgical experience does make these procedures a little easier. My BSSO was only my 3rd operation, but I knew how I would react to the anesthetic, etc.

I felt very alone, too, before I found this Message Board. I know virtually no one who has had this type of surgery! And my family didn't understand why I wanted the surgery in the first place. And my husband was worried about the recovery part of it. He was supportive of me, but I knew it was just as well to him if I didn't have it. I think that gave me good reason to make sure he thought I wasn't worried about it - for his sake. But, he notices the positive difference in my jaw now and it's all fine.

I didn't know if I was reacting normally or not pre-surgery . This Board has been a big help, mainly because we are all going through similar trials.

i was so wrong...

the removal of the wisdom tooth wasnt bad at all, but now, some days after the removal im in incredible pain, i wake up all the time at night from the pain, although i take like 8 or 10 times the upper limit of the daily dosis of a strong pain medication, but it doesnt help..

i dont know what to do, and am really afraid now that after the main-surgery im gonna be still in more pain then now, i cant imagine that, i cant talk, i cant eat now, i cant do nothing... it bothers me especially because normally im not painsensible, even the tooth which have to be filled until the root, they always do it without local anesthesia, and i dont feel anything.. so i really dont know why im in so much pain, and how its gonna be after surgery..

i have read several times about the dry socket, but i dont really understand what it is, as english is not my first language.. ive read that it happens due to the loss of the blood clot. could you explain to me please, what a blood clot is? can that happen too, when the wound was closed with stitches, as was mine?
also not only the place hurts, where the tooth was, but all muscles around it and my ear.
i will see the surgeon on monday, ill see if its bearable until then.

Dry socket happens mostly on the bottom jaw, and it definitely can happen despite having stitches, etc. the socket is the 'hole' in the jaw, the indentation in the jaw from the tooth being removed.

Blood clot means two things, it can be a clot or a large lump of blood in a vein, or it can mean blood clotting over a surgery site, or in other words scabbing over.

One thing you can do until you see the surgeon is get some tea bags, caffiene tea, soak it for 3-5 minutes in water (not too warm) and place that on the suture site (on the hole). But if it continues to hurt, do contact your doctor - dry socket is easy to make feel better with proper medical care and not worth suffering through.

thanx for the help, Arvensis! the surgeon wasnt there yesterday and today, so im gonna see him tomorrow, and actually im not that concerned because of the pain now, im just eating pain medication like cookies, so ill survive it for now...
but im sooo scared, that the pain is going to be even worse after surgery!!! i thought that people normally dont feel pain after surgery, cause of the medication, its more a discomfort they feel.. but it seems im almost immune against pain medis, and when i took enough finally, the pain is driving me cracy when the medis loose their effect, until i take some more..

and im getting also really scared, if im gonna be satisfied with the optical outcome of the surgery, if my face is really going to be more symmetric after surgery, if i actually will like the new face, or if its only gonna be asymmetrical in another, unaccustomed way then now..

Stephany- if the pain meds aren't helping, you probably have dry socket. I didn't have lower jaw surgery, but it's my understanding that it will be more similar to upper in terms of pain than to wisdom tooth/dry socket. dry socket is characterized (IE DIAGNOSED) by pain that doesn't respond to or stops responding to meds. So don't anticipate lower being the same as wisdom tooth.

i went to the surgeon today, and it turned out, i dont have a dry socket, nor have i got an infection. good in one way, but in the other, im still scared now, cause i cant blame the dry socket for the incredible pain i have, but its me... i wonder when i got so sensible?? not long ago they still fixed my teeth(filling, the borerthing etc.) without any anesthesia, nothing, they just began, and i didnt feel any pain.. neither when i had an accident, my arm cut very deep, or anything.
so i guess i just got very sensible to pain, and hope they give me alot of pain medis after the surgery..
by the way theyll also extract the other wisdom tooth during surgery, so ill have to count with that kind of uncomfort too, unfortunately..

dont matter, i try to stay positive, and at least ill have everything done soon..
