Am I a candidate for this surgery????

#1 Post by luckymr13 »

I noticed a lot of people that get this have an overbite...

However I have a cross bite, my right side top teeth angle in and my lower left angle in. The result is a more muscular right side and asymmetrical face, really asymmetrical.

I had braces before and my teeth were perfect and a few years down the road its just gotten worse and worse. My orthodontist told me that my right jaw is longer than my left and I came to the conclusion that if I get braces again then they will just get messed up unless I get the surgery. my teeth are not over/under bitten at all, they are actually laying ontop of each other when I bite and it has cause my teeth to have small chips and some teeth ground down a bit.

I would go see an ortho but I have no insurance at the moment and am leaving for the military in a month, so I figure after all my training and after I get stationed I will go see one and figure something out. But just from my description do you think I am a candidate for this??

Is it possible instead of having bone added to my left side, have bone taken from my right?? Reason is because I like my left side more than my right cause it is smaller.

Thanks in advance!!!

I second that. Talk to an oral surgeon. Better yet, talk to at least two. They do this for a living. Chances are, they've seen, or even operated on cases just like yours. You won't know until you consult them!
