Hello everyone have been viewing this site for the past two months. I had bsso op on 5th March . I found the recovery ok albeit being tightly banded for 2 weeks post op. Then looser elastics. It has all gone very well os and ortho very pleased my question is I have had the surgical hooks on since Feb 28th and following a meeting with orthodontist yesterday it will be another 3 weeks which will be almost 10 weeks in total. Is this the usual length of time?

All of my hooks were removed at my first visit to the ortho after surgery. I think that was 2 or 3 weeks after I released from the hospital. I don't see why you would still need them unless they're planning on installing another splint at some point.

I got my surgical hooks on January 25th for my surgery on January 28th, Ive still got mine and will do till I am debanded (June 6th). So no I think it varies depending on how you ortho does things. Hope that helps :D

Im 10 weeks post surgery and had my bottom surgical hooks taken off nearly 2 weeks ago, but my upper surgical hooks are still there.

Think they just remove them when they need to replace the archwire, so i wouldnt worry to much.

I had my lower hooks swapped out along with the lower archwire at 2 weeks post-op. I still have my upper surgical hooks on the steel wire that's been there since the surgery, almost 9 months ago!
