Driving lessons after surgery

#1 Post by ema27 »

I am currently taking driving lessons-i am doing good but wont be ready for my test till august time .Anyway my surgery is in august and was just wondering how many lessons i will have to miss.I have 1 1/2 hours a week.im expecting to leave it 2 weeks but is the likely result a lot longer..
I really want to drive-sick of relying on my other half all the time oh and public transport...

Hi ema27, I just had my surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago and I was in the middle of my driving lessons too (I'll be taking my test at the end of the summer). My first driving lesson after my surgery will be exactly 3 weeks post op, but I think I could've started at about 2 weeks.

It all depends on how you feel... after surgery, you tend to be really tired and you're all drugged up, so not the best conditions for driving! Also, it's different for everybody; you may feel ready right away, or you may feel terrible for weeks.

I know how you feel about relying on other people to drive you around all the time; it's such a drag! Good luck on your driving test ;).

Lovely Rita,thanks for replying..
Its good to know that you felt fine after 3 weeks-well enough to drive.i am hoping 2 weeks but as you rightly said it all depends on the surgery and how i feel afterwards.
My driving instructor actually recommended surgery after i took my test but the opportunity came up to have surgery this summer and i really want it out the way...
What surgery did you have...?
oh and all the best for your driving test too -hers hoping we both pass and are jumping for joy real soon :jump:

lol @ driving instructors making recommendations about orthognathic surgery  ... But I know how you feel about wanting to just get the surgery out of the way. I was planning a trip to Guatemala with my Aunt this summer, but up came the surgery date and, like you, I just wanted to get it done. I was really disappointed, but my surgery was already 6 months late (I was supposed to have my surgery exactly a year after getting braces on, but had to wait for a summer surgery date so that I wouldn't miss any school).

I had a Le Fort I, what are you having?
