Speaking to my ortho today and he reckons I might need my wisdom teeth out before i have my planned upper jaw surgery. I believe its fairly common to have them taken out for lower, but upper i thought not so much.

Any input.
Appreciated as always.

I was required to get my wisdom teeth out too, and I also had a Le Fort I. I've heard differing opinions on the topic of wisdom teeth... some dental practitioners think that EVERYONE should have their wisdom teeth taken out, regardless of upcoming surgery or other problems, and some think that if the wisdom teeth are not causing any issues you should leave them alone. But my oral surgeon decided that I had to have them out, so I did :). No big deal, especially when I look back and compare it to my orthognathic surgery.

Dunno how your upper teeth and wisdom teeth are fitting, but there was definitely not room in my xrays for any of those wisdom teeth uppers to stay put before the lefort. I suppose they could be brought forward with the others, but the xrays of those suckers (and the lucky #5 sucker who started me on this whole surgery path last year) had them right up against the roots of the molar and there was literally no where to go in my mouth. So I imagine it made it easier not having to worry about another magical tooth in the back when rearranging my upper :)

cheers folks, guess im gonna have to wait for 6 months after wisdom tooth extraction before i can get orthognatic surgery then. By the way is sarpe and wisdom tooth extraction something thats ever done together. I might need both and really don't wait a total of a yr recovering from them before the actual lefort.

cheers.
