I've always hated my profile and gummy smile but now having a lot of functional issues. I feel like my case is more severe than a lot of before/afters that I've seen. I've learned how to smile over the years so my gums usually don't show too much so some of my friends didn't realize how serious it was until I showed them the orthodontic photos. Do you think the surgery will make a big change in the way I look? My self-esteem is so low right now.
Here are pics.

Your photos remind me a lot of a woman's before and afters from my surgeon's website. (
http://www.widneroms.com/gallery.html) - her daughter is 1st, and she is the 2nd set of photos here. She still works as a nutritionist for the office so I saw her all the time.
Of course everyone's results are different, but considering how minor changes in some of us have resulted in quite drastic changes, I'd think that the more your surgery calls for, the larger the change. So yes, I'd say surgery will make a big change:)

OzzysMom,
Thank you for sharing your pictures with us!
Just imagine how dramatic a difference you could have in your appearance. I didn't realize how dramatic mine had been until I looked back at a couple old pictures of myself.
Get a load of THESE chops!
First, before...

Now, after!
Be well, and at peace,
Phil

Wow, brave and/or proud people who give permission for their photos to be displayed on websites. I'd be mortified to have my befores/afters exhibited on my doc's website...as thrilled as I hope I'll be with the results, I'd want to put the past behind me and never think about or see my stupid malocclusion again.

Wow, thanks for sharing.
I know, it does take a lot of courage to post these pre-surgical pics. I find them hard to look at. Now I know why some people thought I was giving them dirty looks if I wasn't smiling.
Suetemi, I'm sure that once I have my surgery I probably won't want to look at my before pics either.
The worst thing is that I started this process 2 and a half years ago and hoped it would have been over by now. I have my 30 year high school reunion in November and am embarrassed to show my face looking like this.......I don't have much choice though,

Ozzy's Mom: Your profile looks familiar. Mine was similar, strained mentalis muscles (puckered chin), lip incompetence, gummy smile, was just as severe as yours when I was young. All I had done was sliding genioplasty and it made big difference. I think you will have a remarkable difference. If I can get photos together, I will post here.

Amazing. I managed to post before profile of me at age 27 back in N.J. Now will try to do later one, a few months ago after genioplasty. give me a second; I'm a klutz at this.
