I got the report from my Ortho and I don't really understand some of it.

Severe class II division 1 malocclusion with left and right side molar relationships a full unit class II. permanent dentition.

Overjet 12mm. Overbite 2mm. Upper arch severely crowded with incisor rotations. lower arch moderately crowded.

Incisors I'm assuming are the teeth on either side of my two front teeth? But what is an Overjet?

Soft tissue analysis - concave, class II profile with vertical maxillary excess and incompetent lips

Class II profile??

Lip Line - 9mm incisal displate. Excessive gingival display on smiling

I'm assuming this means a gummy smile.

Cephalometrically, has a severe skeletal II with ANB 10.5 degrees and MMPA = 45 degrees

Huh??

would benefit from full fixed appliance therapy with orthognathic surgery, comprising a maxillary impaction and a mandibular autorotation and advancement osteotomy (with probable genioplasty)

Please help with the 'terms' used for everything.

Also can someone point me towards a blog where someone has had severe crowding and needed braces and surgery? I've come across some people on here, but they don't seem to have the crowding that I do. I'd really like to see the before and after shots and how long the treatment actually took before noticing anything different.

Sounds very complicated. Maybe you should ask your ortho about the treatment.

I don't have my appointment with my Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon until October and I'm hoping someone can help me to understand all the terms above, so that way, when I have my appointment I will know what he is talking about and not interrupting asking him to explain what he means - if that makes sense?

The term with meaning for me is MMPA standing for mandibular plane angle. From the side (profile view) the angle slanting down from ear to chin is steep if it's 45 degrees. I had one like that. A more normal angle would be 25-30 degrees. If you consider the mandibular joint as a hinge and the mandible swings downward, then upper jaw grows down to meet it. That makes overgrown upper jaw and gummy smile. When we have jaws like that, our chin is not so much receding as it is downward. (making long face). I'm not doing too well on this, but once we see what that mandibular plane looks like it's easier to understand the rest of it. That plane is a crucial part of all this.

Ok I'm back after trying to absorb all the info that Meryaten posted for me. Once again thank you so much for all that info I truly do appreciate it.

One thing I wanted to know is

To be honest, you'll probably find that things will look a lot worse as you approach surgery, since your upper arch is more crowded, so the overjet will probably get worse as all of that is corrected.

How much worse will I look?

I scanned the photo's of what the ortho took, but still not just game enough to post them.

Well I thought I would pop back in and do an update.

I had my appoint with the Maxi Dr yesterday. I was in tears before the appointment because i had worked myself up about it

Basically, and from what I can remember, I will have 6 - 12 months of braces and then for surgery they will bring the bottom jaw forward 10 - 12mm with Genioplasty and they will do the upper jaw - shave it and bring it out and up.

He said that both medically (for the OSA) and aestetically sp* I will benefit from both.

I had a really good cry about it again after the appointment. It all just seems so overwhelming.

So now I will make the appointment with the Ortho to get the braces done.



Also the op is alot cheaper than I expected - so that's a bonus!
