A little too much gum showing post surgery

#1 Post by djudd1998 »

I had upper jaw surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago. My upper jaw was moved forward and down to correct an underbite.

I think a little too much of my upper gum shows now when I smile. Is this something that changes as you heal. If not is this something that can be corrected with orthodontics? I still have braces on that I've had since 2006.

Thanks,
DJ

2 1/2 weeks is way too early to be worried. I am 6 months post op and I still have some swelling. Also, if you were to have a wee bit extra gum showing that may be a good thing - as we age the upper lip tends to droop down a bit. Give things more time to settle and then see how things look. If you are still unhappy there is always the option of shaving off some of the gum.
