12 Hours Post-Op

#1 Post by bstndance »

Had Mandibular Osetomey to correct my under and open bite about 12 hours ago. Surgery was at 8:30am and was home by 2:30pm. I was soooo nervous but once the anesthesia started the surgery was done.

Swelling is going up up up but that was expected. I can talk some. The zip-n-squeeze bags are great.

Can't wait to get over the hump.

Congratulations on making it to the other side! I can't believe you were able to go home the same day. That's much better than staring out the hospital window wondering if morning will ever arrive. It sounds like you are doing well. Just keep icing your jaw and get some rest. We look forward to hearing about your progress.

36 Hours Post-Op. I'm STARVING!! Sick of sweet foods. Can't wait to see my OS on Tuesday and soooo bored watching TV at home.

However, I switched from Codeine to liquid ibuprofen so I shouldn't be feelin' so loopy.

Oooppss I meant 3 days post-op on my last entry. I guess the lack of calories has my brain thinking there are only 12-hours a day.. hehehehe

Day Four

#12 Post by bstndance »

I didn't take a pic today as there wasn't as much improvement or the lighting was just cruel but will take one tomorrow. Not as much improvement... but i'm talking a lot more... probably way more than i should. i'll start talking and after a few minutes can feel the muscles in my face start to tense up a little.

My zip n squeeze bags kicked the bucket. They can only take so much squeezing. But, I'm now drinking out of cups.

COUGHING COUGHING!!!!! I think there's a stitch inside tickling the back of my tongue and i go into coughing fits. Also whenever I lay down for bed I usually have about a good 45 minutes of coughing to get through. At least I haven't had the urge to sneeze though. :-)

Numbness / Feeling. I get lots of tingling on my lower lip down to my chin. But they are pretty much dead for now. My lower gums are also numb when i brush my teeth. I hope the tingling is a sign that things will improve.

Day 5:
Wow! Bruising on my chest. The after-care sheet from the OS said this is normal. It just caught me by surprise after 5 days. Swelling has gone down some. Other people tell me it's gone down lots but we're all a lot more critical of ourselves. 48 Hours from now I'll be sitting in the OS office for him to loosen me up and graduate me to soft foods!!!!!! YAY

bstndance,

You're doing great! Congratulations.

Keep taking good care of yourself, and you'll be on to your soft diet in no time.

Remember to stay hydrated to aid in your healing. Very important!

Be well, and at peace,

Phil

Day 6!!

Numbing is still there. Swelling went down a lil more. Most people say they can't tell I'm swollen but when i feel my face, i can feel it. Tomorrow I will head to the OS to get some bigger rubber bands. I was told I should be able to go to soft foods!!! YAY!!!

Here's a pic.
