Elastics - How do they work?

#1 Post by berniebolt »

:? Three weeks post op to correct underbite. I previously had surgery on upper to widen top. I am in the final phase of treatment and have just had second lot of elastics. My ortho says that elastics fine tune the muscular set up of mouth. I see a lot of difference between my waking position and my going to bed position. I'm not very happy with results which should be finished in about 3/4 months. Just need some reassurance and guidance. All the operations and adjustments went well with no problems, I seem to be pretty much "textbook". There seems to be a lot of shifting about?

The configuration of the elastics differs depending on what your surgeon or ortho are trying to achieve. They may be trying to close your bite, or guiding your bite (retraining your muscles) depending on how they are set up. There will some of movement so soon after surgery. If you are concerned, please call your ortho.
