Need recommendation on oral surgeon in calgary, ab, Canada.

#1 Post by cystleren »

Hi guys,

I have a small chin, which makes my face concave. I had my braces last July. I found this forum recently and decided to have this surgery. My question is that my orthordontic never mentioned that I need this surgery and by now, the accumulated time he talked to me is less than 10 mins! Most jobs are done by his assistant. Last time, when I asked him about oral surgery, he said"oh, in that case, your procedure(bracing) would be changed" and then let his assistant show me how surgery would be done and disappear! I think I am going to talk to him about this surgery on my next ajusting date.

Can everyone recommend me a good oral surgeon in calgary(alberta, Canada)?

Thank you very much~

Most orthodontists will work with specific surgeons for their surgical cases. Your orthodontist will have to contact the surgeon to refer you as a patient and then you will have to wait for the surgeon to call you for a consult. You cannot call the surgeon yourself for an appointment for a referral.

Most surgeons will require molds taken of your teeth before they will call you for a consult as well, so your orthodontist will need to get this done. And as he said, your orthodontic treatment plan will need to be changed if you are going to have surgery.

If you are serious about surgery, you will need to get things rolling as the waiting list for surgery through the Calgary Health Region is at least 9 months to a year (for my surgeon). The office of the surgeon that did my wisdom teeth removal said their waiting list is over a year. I've had braces since July and should be ready for surgery around June. I was put on the waiting list in October, so may not get my surgery until fall.

Is your orthodontist quite familiar with surgical cases?

Audra,

Thank you very much for your detailed reply! I checked your old posting, probably we have the same orthodontist. His office is in Bankers Hall. I searched internet, people said he is a good orthodontist, very honest. Although he seldom talks to me, I will trust him. I am going ask him about lower jaw advancement surgery on my next date.

Have a nice day!

My orthodontist is Dr. Dhol. He is in Banker's Hall - and I think is the only one there, so we probably do have the same one (how cool is that?) He rarely talks to me either - which I actually called him on. The assistants explained to me that this is because he sets up the computerized treatment plan through Insignia and he approves it at that point. When you are in your first few wires, there is no need for him to be involved in each adjustment appointment as the treatment plan is already mapped out. I ask the assistants a lot of questions and they are pretty knowledgeable and they always tell me what I want to know. This past adjustment was my third and I am on my second rectangle wire. Dr. Dhol did come in to check my progress this time - as I was told he would when I got into the thicker wires.

Hey,

I just had oral surgery in Calgary (lefort 1 and genio) in November. My orthodontist, Dr Lee Knight worked with a specific surgeon, Dr Goos. So far I am very happy with the results. I had braces when I was younger so my teeth were already straight and then when I decided to get surgery they told me I needed braces again to move the teeth for surgery. I got the braces in March 2007 had surgery November 2008 and they are anticipating the braces will be off by June.

I had a weak chin too, and they were going to do a BSSO advancement along with the Lefort but at the last minute they decided that a genio would suffice. So far my chin looks way better... well my whole profile in general does. So I would recommend going for a consult with Dr Goos if your ortho would work with him. His office is in Mission... I was on the surgical wait list for a year + just as a warning to you.

My ortho doesn't talk to me much either! It was actually my dentist who put me on this whole surgery path... Good Luck, if you have any questions let me know
