LEFORT+BSSO Surgery Tomorrow! (25th feb) (Maybe Genioplasty)
Hello guys, after a long wait due to fail in blood test for the blood donation, everything's cleared and my surgery is tomorrow morning at 9am!
As I'm typing, I'm already situated in the ward in the hospital to prepare for the surgery tomorrow. It was raining in the afternoon, I'd dragged my luggage packed with all the necessities (sticky tagged in the main forum page thanks to the people who've contributed) to the ward.
As I entered the room, i smelt the hospitally smell. A nurse came in and explained to me the risks of the surgery again, i tried not to show any signs of fear and smiled. "A cup for you" the nurse said as it was labelled "urine specimen". I had to pee a small portion for them to test. "The doctor will be here to draw blood from you later". Unfortunately after 7 needle pokes which included all the failed blood tests, i had to get an 8 tonight for a last blood test before the surgery tomorrow.
If i'd counted in the IV which i believe is going to be sticked into my wrists,
that's 9 needles in a month.. I think i'm no longer afraid of needles anymore, now its just like an ants bite to me.
The Operating surgeon came and greeted me before he left work just now to have a final calculation on my top and bottom jaws to move. He surprised me with a "oh we might need to remove your wisdom tooth during the operation tomorrow and maybe add a GENIOPLASTY too if your chin does not align after the surgery."
I was shocked that 2 other procedures was going to be added the last minute but i trust my surgeon because he's the best over here and even the nurses topped that. Well looks like a functionally correction of my jaw is secretly turning into an aesthetical one which i totally wouldn't mind.
My surgeon did a measurement for the last time before giving me a double firm handshake and leaving for the door. "rest well!" He said.
There i was left in the room with 30 over magazines i'd brought from home and the gloomy hospital room lights.
I'm not sure if i would be able to sleep well tonight, but i'm going to update you guys as soon as i'm okay. Besides the laptop is right next to my bed!
I'm so afraid but yet happy at the same time, i'm not even going to think about the scary part already.. I'm just going to spend my time on magazines instead of thinking of fear and hopefully before i even notice i'm over on the other side.
See you guys on the other side!!! I'm excited!

Dear folks, i'm done with my surgery.
I dont mean to put you guys off but i thought i'd bearly made it pass the painful stage. This was the most painful stage of my life i've ever been through. Right after the surgery of top and bottom jaws, i was injected with a painkiller to make me feel high. After which i started vomiting and that was when my stiches hurt so bad. Day two after the surgery was the worst ever i fell in and out of sleep for 24 hrs, time passed so slowly. It must've been also due to the fact that i was allergied to mefenamic acid (oral painkiller) whereby i could only take normal panadols to subside the pain. The pain rating was 10/10. It was so unbearable, my headache was so bad, sorethroat and swells in my mouth.
I hope this gets better, although my surgeon said my swell is not as bad as other people and that i heal really fast, i still feel tired and pain. As of now i wish i never had this operation but hopefully after pain subsides and swell goes down i'll take back my words.... only one word to describe post surgery... PAIN.......

lefortsg,
I'm sorry to hear of your bad experience in Day 1 and Day 2. Let's not kid ourselves...The first 4 or 5 days are REALLY bad. I think everybody will admit to that. I don't know of anybody that in day 3 is singing the praises of this operation.
What I find upsetting about your story is that it seems you have a lot of pain, and in this day you shouldn't have to have that. You're probably the only story I've read where the pain was the worst part. Now granted, what has been done to you surely is enough to cause pain, but this is usually well controlled. It sounds like you've had some bad reactions to the more powerful pain killers that we all usually get post-op. I really hope they find something that works for you, and I am so sorry you had to experience what sounds like some severe pain.
I can't remember what I was given post-op, but I do remember feeling high. But I didn't care because it worked so well! Also a caveat, my first surgery was a LeFort 1 SARPE and MSDO, which is less invasive than a LeFort 1 and BSSO combo.
Anyway, take some solace that you didn't swell as much...that will surely lead to faster healing and less bruising.
Here's to better days for you...I'll be keeping an eye out for your updates and I wish you the best.
Take Care

Dear Chicago,
thanks for comforting me. It's currently day four post surgery, things are going so much better, for the past few days its been sleeping and eating for me. I didn't know how i was going to survive because the headache was so unbearable and the swell was making things worst for me. Right mow I'm listening to the songs i've composed to make myself feel better.
For who are going through the surgery, remember to listen to positive music after, it helps a little. Any little things help. When my friends visited my a the hospital, i couldn't stand any people talking, it was just too pain for me to absorb any words in my head although i know what is happening.
Right now i'm walking around home and eating as much nutrients as possible to get everything back to normal, walking really helps, don't lie there the hwole day although u really can' find much energy, try to walk as soon as u can, may be just one round around somewhere and back to bed.
The top of my lips always had feelings right after the surgery but my bottom lips are a little numb, i'm slowly regaining feelings next to my chin though. The doctor said they were able to see my nerves which means that they did not cut it and that i would most probably get my feelings back.
Day 2 and 3 are the worst days post operation, please make sure u guys take ur pain meds and everything will be better. Be positive people T_T I'm trying so hard.

lefortsq...I am SO HAPPY to hear you are in better spirits. I felt much the same way as you. Day 1 through Day 3 are just awful...there is no arguing with that fact and I commend you for getting through it without any effective pain relief.
I hope the really nasty part is behind you and you can continue to have a very positive and uneventful recovery. Your advice you've given for others is very good as well.
Take Care and keep us informed!

Dear friends,
thank you so much for the positive comments, it really helped me so much to recover and stay positive. I've learnt that nutrition, positive mindset and walking around accelerates recovery. My doctor is so shocked of my recovery that he requested for an xray to be taken day 2 after the surgery and asked me to look for my orthodontist on day 2 after the surgery because i wasnt on pain killers (the narcotics or smth which will make one drowsy). However, i postponed my orthodontic appointment because i felt i needed more rest although he thought i was alright.
My jaws were not wired together which enabled me to suck on straws on day 2 although it felt really weird because i did not have any bottom lips sensation. I will be removing my stiches tomorrow and i was able pass motion (poo) already.
Please be advised not to take food that is too concentrated, i took something that was too concentrated and started feeling hot. I perspired a lot because concentrated food stops you from burping which can cause a lot of discomfort. Remember, dilute the food you take as much as possible, as soon as you feel you're ready to drink another cup of milk/milo or anything with good calories, go ahead. Use the toilet as much as possible and you'll recover soooo fast.
Thanks again friends for the caring comments, love!
