hey guys, i'm getting very curious about sliding genio procedure. Basically in my consult my oral surgeon said that he was going to bring my chin forward more, and possibly up. I have a recessed chin, and lip incompetence so the EARLY prognosis is for a Lefort on the top to shorten the jaw, and sliding genio on the bottom. he things I can get by without bottom jaw surgery.
however my concern is my face is actually pretty short/small to begin with and i'm starting to worry about the possibility of shortening it even more. I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge on vertically lengthening the chin. like a sliding genio where they slide it forward and down?? will that have a negative effect on the lip incompetence issue?? I'm just curious why he said bring it forward and up a little. If the genio is purely cosmetic (which I'm not sure of) then id want him to slide it down and lengthen my face or at worst offset the shortening of my upper jaw to keep my face at the same height. i feel my face will look even smaller after shortening my upper jaw AND bringing my chin forward/up.
Genio - vertical lengthening of chin??

the sliding genio actually lengthens your chin in the process of it since if brings your chin forward and down simultaneously. i had a terrible experience w/ genio and got it reversed...and now look a lot better/very close to how i did originally (turns out i never needed it in the first place, although i thought i did). beware that not all surgeries turn out well. when i got a genio, my face was a LOT longer and i didnt get it vertically lengthened
Hmm i've read quite a fair bit on genio cos i plan on having my overly tall chin height reduced. Anyway back to your question
Because your chin's recessed now, you can't really tell how large/small your chin really is. There's two dimensions to the chin: projection, which is how far it extends out when you look at someone's side profile, and the height, which is the distance from the lower lip to the tip of the chin.
Any genioplasty to slide the tip of the chin forward and upwards will help with the lip incompetence issues as the mentalis muscle, the muscle which allows you to wrinkle your chin, rides up together with the chin bone.
Your lower facial height -might- look shorter, but because the sliding genio will give your chin much better projection and horizontal length, it can probably 'offset' the shorter facial height. Either way, VERTICALLY short chins with GOOD projection (from the side) are generally quite desirable; take a look at many models, actors and actresses and you'll see this common trait. Sorry to digress but i think the mode of attack seems quite sound.
You should probably consult your surgeon though
How i wish i could get my chin reduced asap! Financial troubles.. sigh
