SARPE- Costs/insurance

Hey guys and gals I might be needing SARPE surgery so I wanted to get a general idea of how much it's going to cost, and I heard a consultation could cost a couple of hundred dollars so I wanted to ask this community before doing all that.

So if you guys could post how much your SARPE surgery cost and how much insurance covered, and if you're in a city/expensive area or a small community, I'd appreciate it!

My surgical costs for a SARPE procedure was $6000.00. That did not cover any hospital or anesthesia charges, which can be significant. I had mine done with a lower procedure, so I had to be hospitalized. If you do this outpatient in the OS's office, there would be few additional charges - likely only a small charge for the anesthesia or sedative. If you do it in a hospital surgical setting, there will be significant charges associated with that. Your OS will explain how he typically handles these and advise you properly.

This price was in the Chicagoland area, and seems to be pretty standard here based on my research.

Also, having people tell you how much insurance covered is really not going to tell you anything. There are thousands of medical plans out there, and each one is different in regards to not only what they cover, but deductibles, co-insurance, etc. Nobody can say something like "Get Blue Cross and it will be paid 100%". It all depends on what plan you have. To read the gory details of any medical insurance plan, ask for the "Certificate of Insurance". It usually is a booklet that contains all of your plan's fine print.

Generally speaking, though, if your procedure is deemed to be medically necessary, it should be fully covered in network at whatever your plan pays, less any deductibles or co-insurance.

I just had SARPE and LeForte1 on the 26th. I elected to have it done at the OS office. I asked the OS about doing it at the hospital and he said that since I was not going to be downfractured, it would be ok to do it at the office. Doing it at the office saved me about $5500.00. He charged me 3400 for the surgery. Since this is all comming out of my ass pocket, savings mean a lot. Hope this helps.

I just had SARPE about a month and half ago...and mine was a lot more expensive than everyone else. Mine was a whopping $38,000 but that included everything, the consultations, the x-rays, the medicine, the surgery (I had 3 oral surgeons in the OR), the actual OR, the pretesting, the recovery room, the anesthesiologist, my room in the hospital...and any thing else I couldn't think of. My oral surgeons were absolutely amazing though, some of the best in New York State, so I expected them to be more expensive than other oral surgeons.

$38,000 seems a bit excessive for SARPE - an hour long surgery?? What else are they doing to you??

I'm in Australia and mine is costing about $3200 (PHI refunds me $1400). It should be a lot less than jaw surgery...it's a procedure.

I have one of our top surgeons also. Why would you need 3 surgeons for this procedure?? Sounds like you were being slightly ripped off
