I also have the same problem. I have a 3mm gap on the left of my upper jaw, 1mm on the right and 2mm on the lower jaw. And also asymmetry on my upper. So, my ortho said that he had to close the gaps and fix the asymmetry before any surgery could be done. And that means at least two more months! I almost cried when I heard that. I wanted the surgery so bad, and he had told me before that I could have it this May/June, but now, he changed it into August. And I have no time for recovery before coming back to college!!!!

So I also wonder if we can fix the asymmetry and close the gaps by braces after the surgery or not! :(

I'm in the same situation as you, palht, in regards surgery possibly in August and going back to university. Last time I had an appointment she said 'about 6 months' which meant August. But I still have a bloody gap and she hasn't done anything to try and close it (although my braces are self-ligating so powerchains etc aren't used so I don't know what is used)

I see her next week so hopefully she'll give me some good news! I really cannot wait any more; I'm getting irritated and a bit down about it to be honest, because I've been waiting for so long and this gap is just taunting me now!

Powerchains ARE used to close gaps with self-ligating brackets.

I have self-ligating (Damon 3 on top and 3MX on the bottom) and I have a powerchain on both arches to close gaps.
