Hi all,
I was wondering if you could help me out as I am having a difficult time making a decision. I have a 3mm malocclusion where my upper jaw is set back 3mm creating an edge to edge bite. I have seen 3 orthodontist and 2 of them said I should have surgery to bring the upper jaw forward. One orthodontist said she could fix my bite with ceramic braces top/bottom and with elastics. Do you think I should go with the braces or the suggest surgical route. I don’t have teeth ware or joint pains.
You can see some photos of my bite at the links below.
Thankyou!

Hi cgold,
If I were you, I'd choose the brace route. Because your teeth are quite good (they are real straight really), and the malocclusion is not that severe. And as you said, there are no joint pains or teeth ware, it would be then really hard to get insurance for the surgery.
However, you should ask your ortho what are the pros and cons of either way. And then balance the risks/effects by yourself carefully. To some people, surgery is their last resort.
Good luck!

EDIT:
I have a class three underbite, and my ortho said I am now edge to edge and my underbite is 3.5mm.
My ortho made my teeth worse for surgery. So they made me have an edge to edge bite. My upper canines and are touch my lower first premolars.
Now you rbite does not look as bad as mine and i need surgery. If I were you I would ask the ortho if he/she can honestly fix you rbite perminelty with braces alone, and what is the likleyhood of yoour teeth relapsing.
