Pre-surgery preparations and piercings

#1 Post by GiverSSJ »

Did any of you had non-oral piercings that you had to remove prior to surgery? I have a cartiladge and tragus piercing and am just wondering if I'd have to remove it prior to surgery. I could wear a retainer for these piercings, but I am just wondering on your thoughts. By the way, I have SARPE surgery.

Thanks!

I am pretty sure you have to remove anything metal or gold or silver prior to surgery. You have to remove them just in case you have to get shocked during surgery and to make sure they don't get stuck on anything. best of luck with your surgery

I've got my tragus, and other cartilidge piercings too. I was told that I should really take them out for surgery, but as you know, it takes ages for them to heal up nicely so I really didnt want to loose them. I replaced them with the plastic retainers before, and turned up on the day with them in...they said it was fine, so I think you should do the same. I think most surgeons will say you have to totally remove them, just to cover themselves..but so long as the retainers are plastic, and pretty tight into your ear (so you dont have the excess length of the plastic bar sticking out which could catch on something) you should be able to keep them!

Best of luck! :-)
