Regret after Jaw Surgery?

#1 Post by Winter2009 »

I will be having lower jaw surgery in just more than a little month. I've read and seen a lot of positive results from other people. I haven't heard anyone regretted about it yet. Somehow as my day is approaching I feel kinda scare and not sure if I really want to do it. I am afraid I will look worse than right now. And this is something that cannot be reversed :(

Being afraid is totally normal, but I suggest you ask yourself a few questions: Is this necessary surgery? What are the long term consequences to not having it done vs. getting it over with? Will having the surgery improve your quality of life? Do you trust your surgeon? Can you discuss these fears with the surgeon? I think the last one is especially important, as a good surgeon should be able to present you with all the pros and cons so you can make an informed decision.

Just remember--there are people on here who have had some bad experiences, but I believe that most of us who go through this feel we have done the right thing--even those who went through hell, seem, by and large, to be happy to have gone through with the surgery. I wish you well with your decision. :)

Actually it can be reversed.

But no seriously, it's just pre-surgery jitters. I can't say in all certainty that you will love the results 100%, but I am very sure that you will notice an improvement aesthetically as well as functionally. This is a minor risk worth taking.

I guess it can be regarded as a big change depending on the severity of your case. Change is hard. Just take a few steps away from the situation and breathe. Everything is going to be ok. Lots of people have done this and come through to the other side better than they went in. Best of luck!
