Drooling Post-OP

#1 Post by ZmaN277 »

I'm about 3 weeks post-op now and still need to carry a towel around with me because I constantly drool without notice =[

I assume this is partially due to the loss of feeling in the middle of my bottom lip, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and could tell me when they stopped drooling everywhere? It's getting pretty irritating.

Thanks.

I didn't stop drooling still i started getting feeling back in my lower lip and even then I still end up with a piie of drool after a good nights sleep. I found I would still drool with the splint sometimes (it was super annoying and seemed to hapen when I smelt something I really liked)

so you'll prob have to wait till you get more feeling to come back, sorry to say.

Zman,

How are you doing? I was going through some old posts last night and I was wondering how you are doing...

As for your drooling problem, I agree with the other advice you've gotten here...If your lower lip is numb, it will probably last until the feeling comes back, at least to some degree. Is this really "uncontrolled" drooling like the first few days post-op, or is it really just an annoyance? If it is the former I wouldn't hesitate bringing this up with your OS. Perhaps they can offer some advice.

I have what I call "decreased sensation" in the very center just below my lower lip from my MSDO (perhaps the size of a dress shirt button) . Once in a great while, out of the blue, some saliva gets loose. At that point I just hope nobody is looking at me :D

I'm doing a decent amount better, thanks for the concern.

As far as the drooling goes, it almost is uncontrolled. I will basically drool on everything unknowingly unless i constantly hold a towel to my face.

My OS suggested slurping constantly, but even then some escapes me.

I hope I get feeling back quick if that's the case. Maybe when my splint comes out, my saliva will have more room to go down my throat / saliva production will decrease.

I have noticed a difference in terms of drooling now thank god! it was really starting to get annoying lol. i still have a bit of drool but its definetly alot better then it was. :) now if only i could control the constant drool that goes down the sides of my face at night time lol ah well one day lol

dont worry too much about the drooling. i definitely also carried around a soft terry washcloth to catch the dribble, as it would come unexpectedly. in fact, its been a year and every so often a little something slips. i think it has to do with not having full feeling in my lower lip like some has noted. in the beginning, when it was really bad, my friends would let me know if i didnt notice. i actually carried it like a security blanket in my purse (the washcloth). I didnt care what others thought because i knew it would get better. hang in there!!!
