How long until eating is "publicly acceptable"

#1 Post by ZmaN277 »

Hello again,

I'm about 5 weeks post-op now [BSSO Lefort Genio] (got the wires and splint out a week ago, now on tight rubbers for one more week), and am still finding eating difficult, but more importantly, "unappealing".

Food still seems to fall out of my mouth without me knowing, and chewing is near impossible because my teeth feel "wooden".

I understand sensation in my teeth and especially bottom lip will take some time to return, but i'm leaving for college on the 20th, and was just wondering how long it will take until I can eat in public without appearing, well, disgusting :P

If anyone has any knowledge of this it'd be much appreciated.

Hi there,

I'm exactly 5 weeks from having a Lefort 1. I went out for lunch the other day. I was quite nervous!! I had a smoothie and it went quite well. Just take it slow and have plenty of napkins available!!

I would suggest soup, milkshake, smoothie or anything that goes down easily.
