Sorry if this has been asked before (couldn't find it in a search), but I'm just curious what the average length of time people have had braces before surgery, not including any delays for insurance approval, etc.

Like many people here I'm anxious to have it done and over with. I'm having the operation done while living in Korea and I plan to return home when it's over. My orthodontist thinks I can be ready by next year, which would be 7 months, but I'm supposed to consult with an oral surgeon next month and get a better estimate.

Everyone is different, but in my situation I haven't even had them on a full year and I'm ready for my surgery. Got braced in Oct of 08 and I am ready for surgery now.

I was braced July 7, 2008 and I was ready for surgery last month (July). I am now waiting for a surgery date, which could be a few months still. I will have 3 months notice apparently, but do not have a date yet.

I was braced Aug 2007 and was declared ready for surgery in June 2009

I was brace nearly 6 months ago. The Oral Surgeon tol me that it looks liek I could be reay by November/December. But... my orthodontist says it will be a little longer (more like 7-9 more months!) because she wants to close the 2 extraction/missing teeth spaces first. Since I got my braces, time has [assed by pretty fast so I am hoping the time until my sirgery will pass by fast as well because I am looking more and more like an ape with each passing month -- this underbite thing is getting worse!

i was braced in April 2006 and I had BSSO surgery Aug.14, 2009. I dont mind having my braces at all. I will miss them when they get taken off. I have wanted braces since I was 14(Finally got them when I was 24). The surgery was yesterday and I feel a lot better then I was expecting but I think the swelling goes up for another day or 2 so we will see how it goes.

I had my braces on for about 18 months prior to surgery, although I was technically ready to have the surgery at around the 12 month mark, but didn't due to other factors.
