Need a lot of advice on results [Pictures]

#1 Post by ZmaN277 »

Just thought I'd ask some questions and pray some of you have some insight. (I'm 12 Weeks post-op btw)

I'm fairly happy with my post-op results, [BSSO LEFORT GENIO] , my only real complaint being that I feel my chin is still a little too recessed for my liking, and my chin also has this little dimple thing I find a tad unflattering:

(Dimple)

(Seems to go away when I smile)

(profile, recessed-ness)

(Looks good when I cover it! :P)

So these are my questions:

A) Do you think I need another genio? If so, should I go for an implant or another sliding one (he claimed he moved it as far as it could go, and I believe him because before It was really recessed). I don't know if second sliding genio's are possible / advised , or if an implant would be a better idea. I feel like a stronger chin would help support my bottom lip so it doesn't "sag" so much.

B) Does the removal of braces have any impact on the lip structure, strain?

C) Is the chin dimple caused my ment. strain and might dissipate, or is it there forever?

Any advice on any of these questions would be really appreciated.

Thanks again,

Zach

Okay, I am also 12 weeks post op, albeit BSSO and Le Fort. I still have a tiny bit of lip incompetence and also have the chin dimple or mentalis strain, whatever it's called. However, I have noticed the strain has gotten much much better over the past 4 weeks. Has yours gotten better at all? I am hoping it is gone in another 6-9 months. I am going to ask my surgeon about it when I go back for my 6 month follow up.

1. I don't know much about genio so can't answer that. He probably did move it as far as it could go if he said that. I know my surgeon moved my lower jaw as far as it could go and if I wanted it to be "better" or more "perfect" I could have gotten a genio, but I didn't want to do that.

2. Some people on this board have said the braces have a slight impact on the lip structure and strain. I am thinking it can't be more than 1mm though. I am getting my braces off Oct 2, so I can let you know if anything changes.

3. The chin dimple is due to mentalis strain and it should get better over time, but hard to say?!

Wow, you have a really nice smile very early on...it took me much longer before I could smile like that.

Much of the mentalis strain is linked to your muscle memory. You should see improvement(slowly) over the next few months.

I've had to tell myself so many times that as long as there's swelling, numbness, tenderness, etc...that I'm still healing and changes are taking place.

Thanks for the replies guys, although of course I'm still anxious to here more about genio recommendations. :D

I thought my appearance would somewhat finalize around the 3 month mark, are you saying this is a misconception? When would you say virtually all of the healing is complete? (On average?)

Thanks again,
Zach

Oh no! Not 3 months. They say that healing isn't complete for a year. You look pretty young so it might be sooner like 9 months if you tend to heal faster. I'd wait another 3 months to really get a good idea though.

I did think that genio results with the chin/jaw were noticeable almost right away though so I don't know about that aspect of it.

chin

#6 Post by chipmunkcheeks »

i was told that my chin was going to be recessed even after a sliding genioplasty. the doctors said that they could only move it so far before it literally feel off my face. i voiced my concern for this and woke up with a perfect chin. I didnt know how it could be since they said it would be left a bit recessed like what you are seeing in your pictures. i think the doctors wanted to see how it healed before divulging their secret. they knew id be unhappy with any recessiveness to my chin so they did two things along with the sliding genioplasty: 1) used 5mm of bone taken from my upper jaw from my lefort I (formally gummy smile) and used it to build out my chin, as well as 2) donor bone. I thought it came from a human, I was told a cow, i shouldnt have asked...haha. Anyways, between the BSSo and genio I was given 22mm of extension to my lower jaw. If you search me I have pics of the before and after. I have seen other people on this site that have had genio or not, but still have a bit of recessiveness to their chin. It really comes down to if you want to go through another surgery and what doctors recommend. THough, you might have to wait until you are completely healed to attempt this. Dont despair, you have option sif you arent completely happy, but let it all settle in.
