Reversing sliding genioplasty

Hello,

I just had my lower jaw advanced 11 mm and my chin moved forward 7 mm. It's now 4 weeks past surgery and hate my chin. I want to reverse it 4-5 mm as I am not happy with it. I still have some swelling but I can't stand my new chin. Is it better for me to get the genioplasty reversed asap or wait longer.

You would have to check with your surgeon on this one. Although at 4 weeks there is probably still a lot of swelling affecting how things look.

Jvivek: You didn't say what you don't like about your chin. Too big? Too small? Neither? Do you have any photos so we can see how it looks? It is true that it's early now to tell what final results will be.
Have you expressed yourself to your surgeon?

i had my sliding genio reversed at 6 weeks. u should get it done next week, by 6 weeks, the bone will have grown back a lot. my surgeon tapped at it and it fell off though. id recommend reversing the genio fully though, because i had a full reversal, and even though my chin used to be slanted back, its not larger than it was originally even though i had a full reversal, and it no longer slants back. the genio made me face long and i hated the look; that aspect of what u dont like still might be there if u get it partially reversed.

the surgeon wanted to do it after 4-5 weeks. still might be swollen but i wouldnt wait more than 5 weeks post op to do it.

if u wait longer than 6 weeks, he will probably have to recut the chin bone again, which could result in a worse look than it would if u just reversed it normally. i heard that if u leave it for a few months and then reverse it, u can get a droopy chin, probably because the skin is stretched out now in front of the chin. this didnt happen to me.

I went to see the surgeon, he wants me to wait few additional months as I currently have braces, he said I might change my mind.


I had jaw advanced 10 mm or so, then the surgeon also moved my chin 7 mm, I was taken back because I didn't think my chin needed to be moved that much forward, had the surgery on sept 8, he wants me to wait till January, my teeth still need lot of work but the more I look at my face, the more I hate my new chin, it too big for my face, I having it reversed, makes my face look lengthy, I wished I would have never done it.

sorry to hear that man. any chance any of u guys that had problems with genio could post any pictures?? i'm supposed to be getting a genio next summer with my surgery, and i'm very worried about it. i was actually under the impression that it would make my face look shorter, not longer, as i'm having lefort to fix lip incompetence, and then he said he's moving the chin forward and up. i'm worried b/c i think my face looks short and round enough, i'd rather the chin move forward and down, or create an illusion of face-length!

anyway totally understand if u don't feel comfortable putting up pics...i'm just having a hard time seeing how genio (which i THOUGHT was bringing the chin forward and up slightly) would make the face look longer, and not shorter.

live near san diego, ca? i know someone who can reverse it for u, they did a great job on my reversal. i dont think that u should hafta wait if u dont like it...7 mm is a big change, even though it doesnt sound like it. what dont u like? are u sure itsj ust the genio and not the other surgery results u dont like? did it make ur face too long?

I find it very difficult to understand a visual problem without photos. I know it can be difficult when you haven't done it before. I always have trouble figuring out how to post but there is help available. Photos that were posted have helped me a lot and i think have been helpful to many of us here. In my case, photos helped me decide to get surgery.
Pictures are definitely worth a thousand words.

I wouldn't say mine was reversed exactly, but 16 months after my double jaw surgery, I've now had my chin shortened and the fat pad resuspended. My face looked much longer after the lefort 1, bsso and genio, and my chin in particular looked long and flat. Having the extra length on my chin also pulled at my bottom lip, making it hang a bit. I'm still swollen so I can't tell exactly what the outcome will be, but already I think the proportions of my face look more normal. Fingers crossed it turns out okay.

i had weird tightness.... due to genio bone advancement its 1 cm approx.... i hope the tightness will go aftr reversal....its been 2 mnths since my surgery.....
i am now going for full reversal
