6 days after BSSO :)

#1 Post by Sammi »

Hi All,

Haven't been on for a while as life has been a bit crazy!! My op was moved to October 5th and this week has been.................ok.

Yes, much to my amazement, it has been fine - pain has obviously not been fun, but I seem to have escaped a "nasty" experience.

Woke up in ALOT of pain and quickly got dosed up on morphine and spent a few hours coughing or throwing up blood which wasn't so fun. But, the best part was that I woke up to find that I wasn't wired or banded shut.... at all....I've had a BSSO with the lower jaw being pulled back about 5-7 mm I think (I need to ask!). Ate some porridge very slowly for breakfast that morning and then the docs came round and said that my result was perfect and ordered loads of x rays rather than just one to basically show off their work!

So far, have been able to eat anything that doesn't involve chewing and have even been able to get the toothbrush in and around a bit from day 2/3 which was amazing. Seriously - how disgusting can one mouth get.. yuck.

Swelling was pretty bad for day 1/2 but with the use of arnica and witch hazel, it has gone down alot - I can see a hint of cheek bones today which is a relief.

Off to see the surgeon on Tuesday to make sure that everything is still ok but just wanted to check in and say thanks for all your help and support in the build up to this and I'm here for any questions if anyone has any :)

Sam

Congrats! :D

I'm happy to be able to read everyones experiences.

My BSSO surgery is Dec. 7th, so I'm sure I'm going to be positing up a few questions in this forum in the near future :)

glad you made it through even if we weren't surgery buddies anymore lol. I thought you were having double jaw surgery though.

Sammi, Glad to hear your doing good. I had lower jaw advancement on Oct 1 and my swelling is damn near gone. I just have a tad on each side of the jaw and on my chin.
To heck with liquid diet. I eat about anything. spaghetti, grilled shrimp/fish anything I can mash soft with my fork I eat. Pudding and jello got old after a week.

I guess I need to update my thread.
