Has anyone had this surgery to reduce a long face?
I have seen pictures in the past of people who had this surgery and their faces still looked long
I dont want to go thru this surgery if it doesnt make the face short enough
Does anyone happen to know?

Hi there,
I don't know if it does but I hope so because I have the same problem. I'm due to have lower/upper surgery next year to correct over overbite and openbite. I'll have to have my top pallate cut in three to expand and bring down the top jaw. Bone graft from hip for that - ouch.
I've seen people on the net who's faces shortened dramatically after and other's who didn't. I find the people with gummy smiles get the best results after for a long face.
When are you due for surgery? Have you spoke to your surgeon about your concerns?

People with an underbite tend to have a long face. A jaw surgery to correct it which is usually accompanied with genioplasty tend to make the face look shorter.

My problem is that my bite is fine, I dont have a gummy smile either
Its just that the space from my nose to my mouth looks too long
Also, my face does not divide up into equal thirds.
Could a surgeon remove a wedge of bone from my upper jaw to make my face look shorter
If so, what would happen to my teeth as i dont have a gummy smile
thank you!

Are you sure that the main/only reason that your face looks long is because of the distance from nose to mouth ?

No, I am actually not sure that is the exact reason
However, my face does look long and I dont have an open bite or bite problem at all. It could also be that my lower jaw is a long, and I do know my chin could use some shortening.
Does anyone know what the average length of a "normal" female face should be from forehead to bottom of chin?

the 'perfect' face is split up into thirds from top of your hairline to between your eyes, from tehre to bottom of your nose and from bottom of nose to bottom of chin. If any of these aren't equal a facial surgeon will look to change them to even it out

Hi, I had upper and lower jaw surgery and my face does seem a lot shorter. I wrote a thread about it if you want some more detail. Good luck.
