Anyone needed a bite splint after braces came off?

First a little backgroud info:

I had lower advancement and genioplasty 9 months ago, and my braces have been off for 3 months. I have since had a positioner and now have invisable retainers. After surgery I had some mouth opening problems and I did physical therapy for 2 months. With physical therapy my opening improved from 18mm to 32mm, when it stalled and 32mm the physical therapist thought that the best it could ever be. My lower lip and some of my chin is still numb.

Since surgery I had some pain, (but far less than before surgery)and the orthodonist and oral surgeon have considered making me a bite splint. Recently the pain has started to get worse, and since my next ortho appointment is next week I think the bite splint idea will be brought up again.

So has anyone needed a bite splint made several months post op? If so, did it help with any muscle pain or jaw issues? Before I started with the orthodonist, my dentist made me a MORA mouth splint which I wore for a year, but I am assuming that a new mouth splint would be something different.

I would appreciate any info so I can go to my appointment with some better questions to ask. I am slighly concerned that the orthodonist and oral surgeon are just going to send me back to the dentist and start back at step one.
