Overactive Upper Lip/ Surgical Lip Repositioning

#1 Post by caschill »

Just curious to see if anyone has experienced this. I just had my first surgery consult so nothing is finalized/ set in stone, but my surgeon said that my gummy smile could actually be due to an over-active upper lip and not an over-grown maxilla. He mentioned that my case would be difficult to determine as far as whether an impaction should be done when I have jaw surgery.

I have been trying to due as much research as possible, but haven't found much. It seems like surgical lip repositioning is an option for correction and that Cosmetic Dentists perform the procedure, but then I read a comment someone had made on a discussion topic somewhere else that it isn't permanent/ doesn't work.

Has anyone on here heard something similar or know someone that had this procedure done?
