I had my op back in late Nov/early Dec, and up until a few weeks ago was not able to chew very well. It was a combination of both pain and having a new structure to learn when moving my jaws. After a while it will get less and less painful, and you'll learn to eat better in your new position.

My bite is still not very wide though :(

I am almost 1 year from my SARPE and MSDO. Things have gotten better in regards to chewing, but I still can't chew like I used to before surgery. It isn't painful, it just feels weird. I call it a "wooden" feeling. I can't fathom biting into something hard and honestly wonder if I will ever be able to. I'm sure part of it is braces and my bite constantly changing, but I think there's more to it than that.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about chewing yet unless it is painful...which if that's the case I recommend you talk to your OS. You need to wait 6+ months and see where things are then. I know I've read stories on here where people say chewing is weird after surgery, so you're not experiencing anything abnormal by any means.

Best of luck!
