hey guys I am living in Vancouver BC Canada

I have been wearing my braces for almost three years, and now I need oral sugery to correct both my upper jaw and lower jaw. I have gone to see an OS today, however he gave me a price that is way out of budget, $10600.

Is any of you from Vancouver? please provide me with some information about surgeons and how much you paid for your sugery. OMG, now I am really depressed cause I expect it to be around 6000.

Any information will be helpful! Thanks guys

I live in ontario.
I will have to pay $1900 out of pocket for surgical tests/ exams but the surgery is covered by our provincial health care.

Perhaps your doctor was giving you the entire amount - I'd inquire about this if I were you.

I live in Calgary. My OS charges $2000 for single jaw and $3000 for double jaw. This is in addition to what the provincial health care takes care of.

I think $10,000 is too much.

My OS is Dr. Moghadan. I have a great deal of confidence in him. He's non-rushed, he explains things to me and is not egotistical.

I am seeing Dr. McDonald in Vancouver--loved him for my consult--not expecting surgery for several months....not sure of the cost as I do not have BC health, my understanding is that covers hospital and his fee would be $4500??

I live in Vancouver too and just had my surgery last August. I went to Dr. Reichman and paid $4700 for lower jaw advancement.

yeah , I actually called him this afternoon to book for a consultation, but I have to wait till May 10th for the consultation and if all things work out well, my surgery won't happen till the end of this year. I am stressed!

Yeah I think Alberta health care covers much more than BC does. $10600 is the amount on top of what BC healthcare covers.
I don't really want to do the surgery with this OS, cause I went in the office and the assitant just walked in with a load of paper work and ask me to fill out, then the Dr. came in to talk to me. But fortunately I didn't sign anything. And after seeing the cost, I asked " this cost is way out of my budget." And she was like "by this time, we think you have confirmed doing this surgery with us. because we haven't charged you anything and your orthodontist and Dr.*** have been working together behind the scene."
I really don't like the atmosphere there. or maybe I just complain too much. How I wish I live in Alberta!!

Amy-

I am hoping you like Dr MacDonald.....I was really, really impressed with him. My OD uses him all the time and has a great deal of confidence in him. Keep me updated on your experience........I am hoping to be ready for surgery by end of the summer (fingers crossed!)

Lucky me, I got my first consultation today, and Dr.Macdonald is absolutely superb!! He took time to explain everything to me ( that was different from my visit to Dr.Wittenberg,,,,,horrible). I was surprised to find out that he only charges me $5600 for everything, that was $5000 dollar cheapter than Dr.Wittenberg. I am so happy that I find Dr.Macdonald, for now I have confidence in my surgery.

I am so glad you liked him Amy!! glad you got in earlier than May 10th!! I am continuing to close all my gaps (such a slow process!!) I was hoping to have surgery in June, but I doubt they (OD, OS, and my teeth) can pull it together that quick, so hoping for Aug before the kids go back to school..once september hits, it's crazy!!
