I you had or going to have a lower jaw surgery, did u get extractions and were those gaps closed before surgery. I ma 24 and have a class 2 mal. My ortho told me that he would not have extractions and would strighten all my teeth , this would make my bite look even more worse before surgery. Did ur bite gwt worse before surgery.

Please help

I had my lower jaw advanced on 12 Jan. Yes my bite became worse before surgery. Yes I had four extractions and most of my gaps were closed. Lower left gap was about 2mm and now (32 days post op) that gap is slowly disappearing.

Big time! My bite has never been or looked so bad as it does right now (before surgery)
It's only temporary though - the result is something I will be able to appreciate for the rest of my life.

I didn't have any extractions prior to surgery. However, my overbite was made worse prior to surgery. They do this on purpose. My ortho accomplished it by placing a spring on each side, creating a gap that ultimately pushed my front 4 teeth forward.

I've had 4 extractions as well (premolars) and now they've all just about closed. I'm having jaw surgery too and I've noticed that yes- my bite looks much worse. My orthodontist/oral surgeon told me- "it's gonna get worse before it gets better". And boy has it! My teeth move constantly, it seems my bite changes every time I have my braces tightened.
