Hi All,
I was planning on doing TADs for my open bite, but recently have begun to think that surgery might be a better option. Do you think if I got braces at the start of May that I might be ready for surgery by the Christmas holiday (I'll be in graduate school starting in August)?
The last oral surgeon I saw said braces before an open bite case usually take about 6 months...and if I got them on in May that would give me about 7-8 months before December/early January.
Please share your experiences. My teeth are already really straight.
Thanks!
Braces before open bite surgery?

The key thing with orthognathic surgery is to be patient. It will take more time to move your teeth because you're not 13 anymore.
That said, I'm 25 and had braces several times a child. My teeth were almost perfectly straight when I got on pre-Lefort I braces (I have an open bite). I got them on in early May, and my ortho deemed my teeth ready for surgery in January. Surgery is scheduled for early March. I was originally quoted 8 months for pre-surgery braces time.
It took a little while to get surgery scheduled because of my schedule, my surgeon's schedule and needing to get reapproved through my insurance.
This process is worth it, but the recovery takes a while and can mess with your schedule. Work with your ortho. He might have you wait to get it in the summer when there is more room for error.
