carefirst bluechoice- 338/month for wife 24 yo and myself 24 yo... that includes the extra 20 dollars/month for dental

I have an individual health insurance plan because I can't get health insurance through my work. I'm always wondering whether or not I have the right plan. I basically just chose the cheapest one with enough coverage that I felt ok about it.

I double checked and my specific plan does, but I know that many plans don't. Make sure you look through your policy and your exclusions to see if you're covered.

I have Kaiser insurance (HMO-D), and am unsure how much they will pay for my surgery. The Kaiser rep was pretty unhelpful. He said for "TMJ" surgery they cover up to $1000. I will be needing wedges of bone removed from my upper jaw to correct jaw problems, so it's not aesthetic, and it's not really TMJ either... Anyone else have experience with this?

I'm not sure if your plan is the same as mine. My plan states that I need to pay $250 per surgery and $20 per day in the hospital.

I have Cigna through my work. I pay $40 a month.
My maximum calendar year deductible is $5000, so I'm saving about $25000 by working at my entry level restaurant job

I have cigna also--but their international ex-pat plan.....are you having your surgery covered? I was told, yes, it's a covered surgery, and because we have an international plan, there is not preauth required. I am still a 3-5months prior to surgery, so I haven't pushed any further than that, so I was wondering what your experience is?

Im not sure if there is a pre-authorization required for my plan but I think so. My surgery is $20,000 and there is NO WAY I am taking the risk of getting stuck with the bill if they decide it wasn't medically necessary, etc.
Also, I have heard that without a preauth, sometimes you have to pay up front and submit to your insurance after the fact for reimbursement.
