Did anyone get surgery with gaps in teeth still?

I've had my initial consultation with the oral surgeon. He told me I was ready for surgery except he didn't want to do it without knowing whats going to happen with the 3 gaps in my teeth. So I went back to my ortho and after the last 3 months, we've been able to completely close one gap. The other gap is slowly moving along but not entirely close. And the third gap is painstakingly slow. My ortho told me she would send me back to the oral surgeon once the gaps are all closed.
The problem lies in the fact that it's almost imperative I get surgery no later than the end of August. If I don't, I would have to wait until February or so of 2011. So my question is, has anyone gotten surgery without their teeth being all perfect and straight such as gaps? I'm thinking about insisting my ortho send me back to the surgeon so I can get my surgery ASAP.

I had the surgery with 2 gaps, which partly created in the first place so my canines would be in the correct position for the surgery. Now I'm post-up both gaps are nearly all closed.

I will be having bimax surgery with my 2 gaps still not fully closed. My surgeon and ortho say it causes no problems at all and will be closed after surgery.

Hm. I am considering insisting on getting the surgery done ASAP because the gaps are still there without any substantial movements. At this rate, it looks like another 3-4 months before they fully close. And I can't wait that long.
For those that had the surgery with gaps, did your surgeon bring up how they were going to adjust for those gaps when doing the surgery?

My surgeon said he is simply going to ignore the gaps, make the operation exactly as she would have done it if there were no gaps.

I e-mailed my surgeon and he said no can do
Any surgery will require all gaps closed! Damn it.

when my gap didn't close after 12 weeks, my ortho doubled up on the power chain (1 under the wire and 1 over the wire) and this closed the gap finally.
I wish she had done that 6 weeks prior after seeing that there had been no movement!

You can inform your surgeon that teeth don't lose the ability to move after surgery. If everything is ready for surgery, apart from the gap from pre-molar extractions, there is no need to wait.

I had double jaw surgery for an underbite, with no braces beforehand and a gap between my two front teeth, that I've always kinda liked. I'm at about 6 weeks post op - I had it on 3/18 - and my doctor said there's always the option of getting braces post surgery.... But because my teeth were relatively straight and even pre surgery, they only look better now, so I don't think i'll do it.

It shouldn't be a problem- I still have small gaps from the extractions, but my surgeon still scheduled the surgery for July.

I was hoping my surgeon would be okay with it because he's ultimately the one calling the shots on the surgery. But since he's saying no, there's no chance for me even if I convince the ortho otherwise

Wow its been a long while since Ive logged on here. Well I had BSSO (lower jaw) and had a small gap that was created a couple weeks prior to surgery thanks to a random bend in my archwire. Needless to saw it did not affect anything. My wire was fixed a week before surgery and everything was corrected on my first ortho appt 6 weeks post surgery. This didn't set me back as I finished all treatment about 3-4months ahead of schedule
