Revise/Reverse Sliding Genioplasty

Hi. I had a sliding genioplasty 7 weeks ago - 5mm advancement. It made my face longish and less feminine, and I want to reverse the entire procedure. I thought about a partial reversal of a few millimeters, but I'm not sure it's worth it.

I've read a few stories about reversals on this website. Can anyone else speak to how their reversals went? How long is best to wait or how long is too long? Is there tissue sagging or damage? What are the risks?

Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

get it done asap. got mine done at 6 weeks. bone should be almost grown back by now, but the longer you wait, the more of a risk there will be that they will have to re-cut it off. if its still in the early stages, they can just tap at it and it will fall off, which is a much less severe procedure and will also wont have the risk of bone-loss while cutting.

i would recommend getting a full reversal. mine was a full reversal, but looked different afterwards--no longer slanted back and was fuller. this is because they cant put it back at an angle, they use a straight/flat plate to put it back, so it will be bigger than the original size. the 5 mm is from this original straight plane, thats why 5 mm can make a big difference, because its actually a bigger movement than that if your chin was originally slanted back or recessed.

I know it's an old post, but I'm having a revision genioplasty and I'd like to hear from your experience

Did you have any more nerve damages after the revision genioplasty?
was your lip even more numb?
How was your recovery?
Have you got all your feelings/sensitivity back? How long did it take?

Thanks so much for your answer!

I can't really help with the revision surgery questions as I haven't had mine done yet. I had upper jaw surgery 8 weeks ago and my surgeon wanted to wait until post op to see if we were going to go ahead with a sliding genio. We have decided to go ahead with this around 6 months post op and I just wanted to know if anyone has done just a genio? Its really difficult to find info on recovery etc on just the genio as most people get it at the same time at the jaw surgery! Thanks :)

I had a genioplasty 5 years ago. went great! I had no numbness or nervedamage or anything. just some bruises for a week. Hm. THey did it to cover up my actual problem though, my overjet. They thought they could avoid jaw surgery and do this instead. I look much better, and I was satisfied, but now my jaw hurts. And I am quite mad because it is so obvious that we should have just gone with braces and jawsurgery in the first place. As this tmj pain will only get worse. So now, I am afraid that having the jaw surgery will make my already operated chin will not fit with rest of face. so maybe they have to reverse it again. And how the hell do they do that?? Because my chin has grown like that now, I donĀ“t even have anything in it, cause my body rejected the little metal screws that was there 2 years after...

Thanks for your reply! So did you feel rubbish for that week? Did you have time away from work? What was it like eating after? I read its no chew for one week then build yourself up after that? How long did it take for the swelling to go completely and for you to be happy with the results?

sorry for all the questions!!! ha :)

I could eat fine. It has nothing to do with the bite or teeth. I think I was away from school 4-5 days. I was at a party after one week! No swelling, only some faded bruises. This surgery is not a big deal compared to a jaw surgery I believe.

That's great news! I know it will be an outpatient appointment and I will be home the same day but I did read you weren't supposed to chew even though it weren't to do with the jaw/teeth itself. Maybe someone was mistaken! Seems like a breeze in comparison to jaw surgery!
