Hello,

So I just recently decided to get braces and jaw surgery and I have yet to talk to an oral surgeon... but I was wondering if people ever get their upper jaw moved back? (I have not read about this, only people having their upper jaws moved forward or upwards.) The reason I ask is I feel like my upper jaw protrudes more than usual. I know it also has to do with my teeth because they do flare out a bit but I don't have lip incompetence and I have a feeling it is also the bone that is set a little forward. Anyways, any feedback would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, people do get their jaws moved back. In the words of my surgeon, "I can move it up down, forward and back." At first we though that I was going to need my upper jaw moved back, but after further analysis, I’m only going to need it to be moved up.

Sometimes when you look at yourself, you can't make an impartial judgment. The best thing to do would to be evaluated by a surgeon and let his or her trained eye determine if that’s what you truly need, or possibly a different move. But yes, it can be moved back.
