Swelling after surgery question

#1 Post by Karma »

I am 4 months post op and so far am very happy with the results. I still have numbness in my chin and upper gums, and my jaw gets very sore some days, but overall things are progressing nicely. My only concern is the swelling I still have. Over the past few weeks it seems to have gone up, not down. My Dr has said that if my swelling goes up and stays up for several days I should call him to be put on antibiotics. The issue I have with this is that I recently found out I am expecting and will not be allowed to take any of the medication he wants to give me. I plan on giving him a call anyways to discuss the situation, but thought I'd check here so see if anyone has any natural methods to reduce the swelling?

You need to be careful here, because increased swelling may be a sign of bacterial infection. Your doctor would want to put you on antibiotics to fight the infection. Natural treatments to reduce the swelling won't do anything for the underlying infection.

I would definitely call and check with the doc. However, I know it's a common symptom for pregnant women to swell (like hands, etc) in the early weeks or months.
