Paranoid that my Chin will move after Chin Aug/Jaw Surgery

#1 Post by timbbusa »

Hey Guys!
About 3 weeks ago I had Jaw surgery done which included advancing the lower mandible, moving around the upper jaw, a turbinectomy and then a sliding genioplasty!
Anyway everything went great and my surgeon has cleared me and says everything looks great, however…
I keep having these bad dreams that my chin will somehow break free of its titanium screw/bracket and somehow move backward. Tonight I inadvertently pushed on the chin a tiny bit with my covers and I felt a tiny bit of pain.
Still with it only being tiny I was still worried for some reason that the chin might have moved!
I even went into the mirror to make sure it didn’t move!
I am just being paranoid right? I mean it would take some major force to move the chin after a sliding genioplasty has been secured with titanium screws right? I doesn’t just normally start moving on its own or anything right?
I think I am just being super paranoid….
Please tell me how I am just being paranoid about this thing moving on its own...

(I havent seen any evidence of it moving or felt it move, I am just scared that it will)

Besides the plates the bone is also continually hardening. Movement isn't very likely.

Believe me it didnt move. I hit myself in the chin just slightly about a week after surgery and nothing happened. It didnt hurt, but because my chin was numb I didnt realize how close I was to something.

You will be ok.

Please don't worry, I had my chin plate removed after 6 weeks post-op. I literally looked inside my mouth after pulling my lip forward and I could see metal! I almost fainted-my screws were pushing themselves out! After x-rays he could tell the bone had fused together to its new position and it was safe to go in and take out screws and plates! I also looked at your post-op pix-your results are great. Don't forget they do measurements as to the symmetry of all features-I forget what they call it-The frankfort horizontial plane? Great wishes for a speedy recovery!
