Two weeks post-op and feeling fine

#1 Post by Aviv16 »

It's hard to believe that two weeks ago I was lying in hospital, swollen and out of it, after double jaw surgery and genio to correct my underbite. Now I'm pretty much feeling fine! I'm still fairly tired but I've been ok going out in public for a few days now. There's still some swelling around my nose and upper lip but it's not too noticeable. This area is still numb but I am getting more feeling in it every day - lots of burning and tingling.

As of yesterday I'm on a soft diet (so glad to be off that puree diet!) and I've managed to chew my way through several meals. I'm allowed to take the elastic bands off to clean my teeth, which feels so much better. I've seen my surgeon twice and ortho once, and they are both pleased with my progress.

I'm really happy with the results - my face shape has changed dramatically, for the better. Feeling and seeing my top teeth bite in front of my lower teeth is amazing!

Hi Aviv,

Congrats on the progress! I'm one week out today and even at that point, I feel pretty good too! You and I had the same procedure, and even though I have the splint still in until Tuesday, it really is something else to have your top teeth in front of your bottom teeth haha! I suspect not many people would be able to appreciate that as well as you and I.

You say that you saw your ortho once so far...did he actually do anything or just take a look? My surgeon and ortho aren't huge on communication sometimes and my surgeon told me to wait six weeks (!) before going to the ortho again, while my ortho wants to see me in three weeks.

Just curious. Thanks!

Good to hear you are doing so well! I joined the forum just before your surgery, so I've been reading all the recent threads in this surgery category. Those of us with surgery in our future need to hear stories like yours!

Man I wish I was going to be allowed on a soft food diet, I'm on liquids only the entire time. I am day 4 post op, I am feeling pretty good. Its amazing how I thought I was going to be in pain and be numb, but I haven't had pain or numbness, didn't need to take the pain medication. I am excited for my first post op visit on Tuesday.

I'm breathing through my nose well now, though it tends to bleed when I am on my feet too long. Still pretty sensitive, but I am very happy that I can breath through my nose as it was tough trying to breathe through my mouth.

The inside of my mouth feels gross to my tong and its only 4 days! Wish I could clean it out but IDK what to do, I was told no mouth wash yet and just allowed to brush my teeth lightly but its only the outside and I have had horrible after taste in my mouth.

My lips were discusting looking, pretty swollen and cut up from them doing the surgery, I have a small mouth though. Last night I peeled off all the skin from my upper and lower lip, both dried out and died, my mouth looking more normal now but I am still really swollen in my cheeks and under my chin area.
