This still hasnt changed grrr

#1 Post by enigma »

Hello everyone,
Well havent been on in such a long time hope everyone is keeping well and happy with their results from Jan.
Well Im still thrilled with mine and will post some pics soon.
But one thing is still major and thats the numbness in my lower lip and chin the only way to describe it is that it still feels full of anesthetic! Sometimes I still dont feel anything if i spill on it although its super sensitive to touch I know I have been told that this takes time but to still feel the same tightness in my chin and lip is getting really frustrating for me now. If this was to continue is there anything at all they can do? I know that this is the risk I took and Im okay with that but its annoying! :)
thanks for your input

I was going to post something very similar myself! My numbess is still at the plateau of feeling dead most of the time, but some days it is quite ticklish to touch. I'm also...not worried, just aware, that I can't feel any heat in the main area on my chin that is numb. I feel that something is there, but it is not painful (for example when placing a hot cup to my chin).

At the last clinic (where I see my ortho, surgeon, and any trainees who have followed my treatment) I went to I told them about it, and they asked if I could feel any heat as if this was a sign that things wouldn't improve, which I hadn't really thought about at the time. So of course now I can't help but experiment with feeling some heat! I said earlier it doesn't worry me, because it doesn't really effect me any more than it just being annoying sometimes, though I would like the feeling to be 100% again some day.

When I have my next clinic in December, I will see what they have to say.

I have my upper/lower surgery in about 3 weeks...but I have a very small area of my lower lip from my MSDO that mimics what you're saying except I'm the opposite. Most days I have "normal" feeling, but some days it is noticeable "odd sensation". I wouldn't say it is numb...just altered feeling. On those days sometimes I catch myself drooling sometimes :-)

So, I would say your feelings are normal. Let's hope it all comes back to normal for you. All in all, however, the most important thing is you love your results!

Best of Luck

I've been wondering the same. I had lower jaw surgery last December.

In March one side started to be hypersensitive instead of just subtly numb.
If I scratch under my lip I feel a little bit of nerve pain in the tooth behind it.
If I eat or drink something warm that area of my skin will feel warm. I think I preferred the numbness. I hasn't changed since then--almost 6 months.
I've gotten used to it, but I really hope it improves.

Ironically, after surgery one side was fine immediately, the other side of my jaw was achy and painful and gave me a lot of problems. Yet the side that was fine from day one is the side that is now hypersensitive. The other side is fine.
