Misplaced midline after jaw surgery?

#1 Post by vincejawsurgery »

I just noticed that the midline of my teeth are still not in line with the rest of my face. My surgeon did mention it and said it was about 3 mm off.

Did this happen to anyone after surgery and how did the doctors correct this? I am thinking they will fix this with braces.

My midline was off after my elastics came off and when I mentioned it to my ortho, he said to bite however I was comfortable biting for now and that he'd correct it with elastics.

May I ask, how long did it take to correct the position of the teeth?

I haven't actually started the elastics yet so I'm not sure. I've been wondering the same thing. If I bite to where my midline lines up, it sometimes feels unnatural so I'm actually looking forward to starting the elastics.

My midline was perfect right after surgery and a week after being unwired it shifted a few mm. I was in elastics for a couple weeks with the OS and it was corrected. Again, a few weeks later the midline shifted and my ortho has me back in elastics to correct it. I am not sure how long it will take to correct the issue.

That sounds scary. I hope mine can be corrected without a lot of drama.

It's more annoying than anything else because elastics are such a pain. It doesn't bother me too much if my midline is off a few mm as long as my TMJ issues don't persist or get worse. That would defeat the whole purpose of why I had the surgery. They seem to want it corrected though.

My midline was off by about 3mm after surgery.
I had elastics put on one week after to correct it (annoying and painful - but not unbearable) and will wear them for at least 6 weeks, to my next ortho appointment.

I already know my midline will be off after surgery. I don't think it is worth getting my lower jaw done for about 2-3 mm of an off midline only. I don't know if the ortho will try to correct it with elastics, but he did put the little elastic loops on during my last visit.
